In The Dappled Shade
2026
What started in the early 19th century with the planting of thirty oaks on the old ramparts of the city of Herentals (BE) grew into an enclosed park garden featuring more than 70 different tree species from all over the world. For STORMloop 26, a new tree takes root in one of the interior spaces of Le Paige Castle. A four-meter-high sculpture constructed entirely of textile merges with the Art Nouveau ornaments that reappear in various places throughout the interior. More than just an 'axis mundi', the work attempts to take the viewer into the intertwining of worlds, of which we appropriate only a part to write our story, to capture our power, knowledge and desires. A tree, however, is never an isolated life, but part of a complex community of which we are just as much a part. As part of the work, the visitor is invited for a walk through the park, past a selection of trees and their stories.
This work is constructed from recycled material and was made possible with the support of DRISAG Office Furniture nv.
